Max

This is 4 year old Max.
Max was handed in to scottish based German Shepherd Rescue UK Ltd by his previous owner for the purposes of being rehomed. He was placed in a volunteer foster home in the Bolton area who, by their own admission, were very badly equipped to deal with such a dog and had been living outside with very limited human contact.
Several requests by the fosterers over a long period of time to find alternative suitable accommodation for Max were allegedly ignored.
3 days before Christmas, the people left caring for Max, concerned for the safety of their children around the dog, contacted GSD Helpline for assistance.

Despite several members of GS Rescue UK Ltd, being aware of his position,  when asked if they would help, the Director of the Company (Mrs Shenstone) preferred only to respond in an abusive manner and accuse others of being disinterested in his welfare. She failed to do anything further to remedy the situation.

The previous owners of Max had handed him in to GS Rescue UK Ltd assuming he would be cared for and were, naturally enough, shocked that this did not turn out to be the case.

No further contact or solutions to this problem were forthcoming from GS Rescue UK PLC, and so a kennel space was made available through Safepets UK and Max was transferred there on Boxing Day.

Care for Max is now being funded by the Rocky Trust Fund. This will include vaccinations, worming and neutering. A proper and full assessment of Max is eventually being provided by trainer/behaviourist Debbie Conolley. Many offers of assistance from other breed welfare organisations who are equally appalled at the situation in which Max was placed have been forthcoming while his future is being decided.
Max was only one of several dogs who appear to have been similarly abandoned by the same organisation.

Update on Max March 2006.
Following a period of assessment and attempts at retraining, it was felt that Max was not suitable to be rehomed and so, upon professional veterinary and legal advice, he was put to sleep.
The fate of the other abandoned dogs is not known.
