My main passions in life are my dogs and cars.
I was born in Cumbria and my first job at the age of fifteen was working on a farm with all kinds of animals, and helping out with the trail hounds and the working dogs on the farm plus the little Jack Russell pet.
In my youth I raced and rallied a various selection of cars but had to give this up as it became increasingly costly, and my family began to wonder who I was. I now have two classic MG BGT’s cars as I am getting a little bit older, a Red one and a Blue one. The Red one I am currently restoring. The Blue one I show and enjoy driving, I am also a member of Bolton M G Owners & Classic Auto Club.
We purchased our very first German Shepherd Dog in the later 70’s. Unfortunately for us he died at the young age of 16 months. This was our first shock into bad breeding and what the outcome can be when breeders only see CASH £££. It was a very hard lesson but from this we learnt about bloodlines and faults they carry. Our next German Shepherd Dog was a bitch; she came from a mixture of the English and German bloodlines. Her hips were too high to breed from, but she taught us a lot both in Obedience and later in the show ring. Whilst owning her we joined the Northern Alsatian Training Club and I was elected on to the committee.
As time passed we become increasingly more interested in the Show world. We were introduced to Bolton German Shepherd Dog Club. I have for the past eight year been the Chairman of Bolton GSD and was the Vice Chairman for the previous seven years. My wife Carol is the Secretary. Sundays is the club’s training day, and here I am the one who will take on the difficult dogs and the one to one training sessions. I enjoy learning daily with dogs and people, and consider that you never stop learning. Bolton GSD Club is a founder member of the GSD Breed Council and as such both myself as Chairman and Carol as Secretary represent the club at all the meetings of the Council.
We have the affix of EISTEIN and have shown, bred and judged the breed for the past fifteen years. We have both bred and exhibited our dogs on a limited basis and will only breed for our next generation, and have signed the Breeders Charter. Unfortunately since I was forced to retire from work due to an accident this has somewhat curtailed my showing activities. Having more time than enough on my hands I am now able to put something back into the breed by helping out with the Helpline. I thoroughly enjoy meeting with and talking to people. I am keen to learn and share my knowledge with any one.
