Appear overly eager to sell and 'get rid of' a puppy and get you out of their house.

      Breed simply to produce puppies to sell, rather than for enjoyment or to further the breed itself.

      Breed a bitch on every season, or more than once a year, or breed from a bitch before she is mature in mind and body (under 2 years of age in most cases).

      Have breeding stock that consists of a pair they have mated more than once.

      Claim that all of their puppies are show quality.

      Claim that their breed has no problems (some have fewer than others, however every breed has at least a few) or claim that they don't need to carry out the recommended standard genetic testing because 'they don't have those problems in their lines'.

      Sell puppies to pet stores or to anyone they have not met/vetted personally.

      Sell puppies that are less than eight weeks old.

      Sell puppies without papers (registration slip and 3-5 generation pedigree),  claim the papers are held up with the KC or are in the post or even charge extra for papers.
 

Note: A responsible breeder is very proud of their puppies and want them to go to good homes that will insure, that they have a happy life. The welfare of these puppies are more important than the sale of a puppy.
