
I am a retired Police Dog Sergeant. I had 27 years
pensionable service, of this service I served in the Police dog section
of Grampian Police,( Previously Aberdeen City Police) ,from 1971
until my retirement 1993. During this time I handled General police dogs
and specialist. ( Explosive detection). I was promoted in charge of the
section in 1985, and as a result was responsible for the selection of dogs
and handlers. Further responsibilities were, the basic training, continuation
training of dogs and handlers.
I am also the holder of the Home Office Instructors
Accreditation, Explosive Detection and Examination.
Since 1972 I have competed in Civilian and Police
working trials. Over the years we, my dogs and myself Qualified through
the various stages. CD ex.UD ex WD ex.TD. Qualifying in the Scottish Police
Dog Trials..1982.-1990.Winner twice, runner up twice, qualifying for the
Nationals four times.....But no luck there..I was into the working trials
in a big way, not only as a competitor, but as a helper, track layer, steward..general
dogs body..and judged occasionally..I preferred to compete.
Since my retirement I have been involved in the
running of Training classes on a one-to-one ..group class..puppy class..behavioural
and socialisation problems are addressed. I am also involved with Canine
Specialist Training & Consultancy working overseas.
