2. Discover the GSD as a Companion Dog (black and white drawings)
For those who have decided to own one. Lifetime GSD expert and
longtime CHC member, Joyce Ixer has produced this lovely 44 page book following
on from the beautifully written 'Discover the GSD'. Part One gives
us the background to the breed, a suggested breeders' code, and a buyers'
charter, giving advice and information that anyone should consider prior
to having a GSD. This section continues with 'making a start' when
looking to buy a puppy, and finishes with reviews and details on the breed.
Part Two gives details on the GSD diet, including feeding your pup.
The Health Matters chapter details the possible health problems of the
GSD and finishes with recommended reading on feeding and health plus suppliers/contacts.
Part Three looks at the companion dog - growing, training and behaviour
- then continues to look at the adult dog, and includes an often overlooked
areas of welfare as well as ageing. The book closes with a page of
useful addresses.
A welcome addition to the bookshelf for any past, present or future
GSD owner, this book is a limited edition available only from the author.
