The GSD Breed Council

Breeders Charter

I agree to maintain the following minimum standards

1: To maintain the best possible standards of health, environment and quality of life for my dogs, not keeping more than I can properly care for. I will endeavour to breed only to the GSD standard and before mating any bitch I will ensure I have suitable conditions in which to whelp and raise a litter.

2. To refuse to sell to unethical dealers or any buyers where I have reason to believe the dog will not be properly cared for.

3.To keep and pass on to buyers of stock, accurate records of health, pedigree and registrations and advise on  feeding and rearing, and to suggest a Training or Breed Club.

4.If requested by the purchaser, to agree for the puppy to be examined by a qualified vet surgeon on the breeders premises to certify the puppy is healthy (Buyer to meet costs)

5. To sell only puppies and adult dogs of sound temperament.  Puppies to be wormed at least twice and will not be sold until at least 7 weeks (plus)

6. To replace any pup (or refund purchase price if no replacement is available) which develops any inherited physical defect before 12 months old to such a degree that on the recommendation of 2 independent vet. surgeons the puppy has to be put down. Breeder to be properly notified before any action is taken.

7. Not to mate any bitch under 20 months or before her 3 rd season or over 8 years without prior permission from the KC, my own vets approval and certificate of health for the higher age and not to have more than 2 litters in successive heats from any bitch which has reared more than 4 or more pups in the last of these 2 litters.

8. To refuse a stud service to any bitch I know to be suffering from any defect which renders it unsuitable to produce good normal puppies. Nor do I knowingly use a stud dog which has these failings. I will only breed from scored stock within the criteria laid down for Class 1 and Class 2 of the Breed Council Survey or that which has  foreign hip grades passed for breeding in its own country. Outside of this range, I will seek written advice form the breed geneticists. I will mate compensatory and will include any hip scores of sire and dams on the pedigrees.

9. To limit stud services to a maximum of 60 per year per dog and not offer dogs at Stud until tested clear for Haemophilia A. I will not accept bitches for mating which have not been hip scored.

10. To allow a repeat service when a bitch failed to conceive provided the stud dog is in good health and available. If this is not possible, to allow the concession with another dog owned by myself, who's fee is less or similar providing the original KC mating form is returned.

11.To allow an appropriate selected person to visit my kennels if requested by the Breed Council, when notified in advance and reason given.

12. To restrict breeding to no more than 8 litters or 60 pups in any 2 year period. This to include any pups on Breeding Term agreements.

13. To register all my puppies with the KC.

14. To endeavour to take back or assist in the re-homing of any unwanted GSD of my breeding.
