Update
February 2003.

9 week old "Twinkle Toes"

Twinkle is the result of a litter bred by people living in Edinburgh in a block of flats with 3 adult dogs.
Her mother is 8 years old and this was her first litter (hopefully it is also her last).
The 9 week old puppy with an uncertain future was unwanted by her breeder because they were unable to sell her.
Named "Twinkle Toes" because of a gross deformity of her front leg which we believe to have been caused by an old injury that had gone untreated at the time, Twinkle is currently in foster care in the North East of UK awaiting surgery to remove her limb.
The Rocky Trust Fund will help towards the cost of the surgery and a permanent home awaits this little girl as soon as she is fit and well again.
Thanks must also go to Prince Bishop Vet Practice, Leadgate for providing treatment at cost price, to Northumberland and Durham GSD Club for their generous donation, and to NCDL whos neutering and micro chip scheme will benefit Twinkles future needs, and to the donations received towards vaccinations, worming and other general health provision.

Update on Twinkle.
Less than 2 weeks after surgery to remove her leg Twinkle was well enough to go to a new home found for her by members of GSD Helpline. Twinkle now has a doggie boy friend in the form of "Bracken". The two are inseparable friends and have been back to visit us. It was great to see her doing so well. Thanks to everyone for helping to give this little girl the quality life she deserves!

Message from Twinkles Parents:
27.08.03

I am just writing to thank everyone in The Helpline and The Rocky Fund for the great support and money given for Twinkle's operation.
Let me firstly say that Twinkle is wonderful, I think with having her leg removed at such a young age she doesn't now any different so she has not encountered any problems.
The day Twinkle came home with us we thought she would probably cry at bedtime so we were prepared to be up in the night, well yes she did start for a while, I came downstairs, reassured her,and that was that,  not another sound and that has been the way ever since, she was the same with housetraining no problem, 3 days and she was clean in the night, just the odd piddle, she's a dream of a dog.
We are lucky enough to have a field with access from our garden so she has gradually built up her strength, when she has had enough she sits in front of our legs and doesn't move, if we attempt to walk off she nips our ankles to tell us to wait for her.
Now let me tell you Twinkle's greatest strength, Bracken, he is almost 3 years old and he also came from The North East GSD Rescue,he has been brilliant since the day we got him, which was a week before Twinks, he has been so gentle and kind with her, he even lets her eat and drink with him,he is her hero and its as if they meant to be together, he is also a lovely friendly dog with all he meets.
The next big step for Twinkle will be when she is spayed, which with her being strong and healthy will probably be next month, apart from this we don't foresee any other problems.
I could go on and on about Twinkle because we love her, not because she has three legs, fortunately I don't think she is even aware she has one missing, and to see her chase the big lad you would have no idea either.
Finally we would like to thank Alyson & Helen for their brilliant work within the rescue and without them we would not have both our dogs, so well done you two.
And once again to The Rocky Fund many, many thanks to you all and of course to Rocky.
 Best wishes.
Linda, Paul & Grace Stringer.

November 2004 ~18 months on and Twinkle is still doing well
