THE ROCKY TRUST FUND

30th October 2002.

Dear Friends,
The photograph above is that of 6 year old blind rescue dog "Rocky". Having spent the past year of his life abandoned in a kennel it is clear that his story touched many hearts.
A loving family home was found for this dog where his disability mattered not to the owners or to his new found friend and constant companion GSD "Mac".
In June of this year, following an eye exam, the Helpline launched an appeal for funds which we believed would help rescue dog "Rocky" regain his sight. This surgery was due to have taken place last week however, much to everyone's great disappointment, during a pre-operation eye examination, the specialist advised that the retina of Rockys one remaining eye was starting to detach. It is not known if this condition is causing the cataract, or if the cataract is the cause of the detachment. Either way, it is a degenerative condition and whilst Rocky may have benefited from some sight initially, it would only have been short term.
Having consulted with one of the well respected ophthalmic surgeons in the North, it was agreed that this course of action would benefit no one ~ especially not Rocky who, as it happens, has settled very well and copes in his new surroundings.
Thanks to the generous donations to assist Rocky, GSD Helpline found themselves with a surplus of funds which it was felt should be used for the benefit of other rescue dogs. To this end, a trust fund has been established and will be known as "The Rocky Trust Fund".
Contributions from the fund will be available to GSD's in rescue who require essential treatment where no other funding is available.
Over time it is hoped to be able to add to this trust all further information regarding making a donation to this fund is available from
